Hotel/B&B Recommendations in Switzerland

My family and I are planning a trip to Switzerland in May. We'll be there for 10 days, flying into Geneva and out of Zurich. We've not finalized our itinerary except for the 3 days that we will spend in Murren (I've already made reservations at Hotel Alpina there). But I'm looking for recommendations of Hotels/B&B's in Lausanne, Zermatt, Bern, Luzern and Zurich. We'll definitely spend the last night in Zurich, but I'm still trying to work out the details of the rest of the trip and so your recommendations for places to stay in the places listed above will help me decide where we will go. Thank you very much for your help.

In Lucerne we loved the Hotel Seeburg Luzern. It is across the lake from the town, so the views are awesome. It is a quick bus ride from town, and the bus stop is in front of the hotel.

If you do a google search for B&Bs in each city you can read comments by other travelers. I always read those for hotels, inns and pensions to help me decide when I can't get other information.

Bonjour Penn,;
In Lausanne we have stayed several times at the Hotel Elite which is now in Rick's Switzerland guide. Hotels in Switzerland are not inexpensive but always very nice and clean. I have also stayed many times at the Hotel de la Paix as a child but it is out of my price range!

Unless you just absolutely love Zurich you could easily spend the last night in Lucerne on the River. It's an easy 50 minute train ride to Zurich and the airport from there.

If you're looking for a budget hotel in Zermatt we chose the Hotel Garni Tannenhof. Definitely no frills with a TV only in the communal living room. The rooms were clean, staff nice, included breakfast good and the rooms were quite cheap.

Hi Darcy and Tim

Thanks for your suggestions. I will check them out.

With regard to Zurich, we are definitely planning on spending the last day in Luzern, but we'll take a train into Zurich late in the evening. My sister has an early morning flight to Paris out of Zurich, so we will spend the last night at the Hilton near the airport (I've got Hilton Honors points that I can use to book us rooms at the hotel) so that she can make her 7:00 AM flight without getting up at the crack of dawn!

Thanks again for your help and suggestions.
