Has anyone stayed at Hotel Aspen? It seems to be less expensive than most of the places we saw in the area, but all of the reviews I read said that it was clean and nice and that the location was great. I would appreciate any additional insights. Thanks

Andrew; never stayed there but being nosey I did a couple of Googles as I'd never heard of the place even though I've spent a lot of time in Amsterdam over the years. Between Google Earth hotel reviews (which include Trip Advisor and Booking.com) and just TripAdvisor reviews, seems decent. TAdvisor says it ranks about 100 out of 300 hotels in Amsterdam, the price looks right, and unless you get a response from someone who's actually stayed there, you may have to hang your hat on the internet 'opinions'. A lot of complaints relate to the steep stairs (THAT'S HOLLAND!) but unless you get a place with an elevator, expect steep, usually winding, stairs. The houses/buildings were constructed narrow and tall for a variety of reasons, including tax avoidance years ago, and it goes with the territory. If it's your 1st trip to Amstdm, you'll enjoy and you're near all the sights; have a blast.
