We will be driving from Verona Italy to Trier Germany the western side. We have 9 days to sightsee the areas,Switzerland, Germany and maybe a little of France. We have never been to any of these Countrys any help on where to stay and what to see,we love history and landscape. Any imput will be great. Traveling in mid MAY.
What time of year are you driving? This will make a difference in the passes you may have to drive (snow).
On the German leg of your trip if you can 'hit' the Mosel river where is joins the Rhine and drive the length of it, 2/3 days perhaps, making Trier your last stop you can take in some wonderful towns and villages. Burg Elz, a castle just outside Cochem on the Mosel is worth a visit. It is a beautiful area with vineyards, hills and castles. Many B&Bs/hotels en route. You could also take in the Black Forest area on your drive North. I've just realised that you only have 9 days for the whole trip, so perhaps you would only want to join the Mosel at Bernkastel Kuesel which is then within easy reach of Trier.
If I correctly understand you, you plan to rent a car in Italy and drop it 9 days later in Germany or France. Have you checked the prices on what you intend? Drop fees across national borders tend to be ridiculously high. You may have to rethink this and replan using some combo of cars and trains.
