Hotel Ambassade in Amsterdam looks great and is in the RS guide. Question for those who have stayed there: price on standard double is waaaaay lower than next room up. Is this a question of you get what you pay for (maybe it is very tiny or has some other major problem) or is that double a good deal?

The Ambassade in Amsterdam is lovely...but to answer your question ..yes...the more expensive rooms are on the canal are much larger and brighter. If you are just in Amsterdam a few days it is a wonderful place to stay. breakfast is wonderful...but extra.We stay longer to photograph and use the hotel Fita or the Wiechmann. They are nice, but hundreds of dollars less.The Wiechmann has a great location but is not air-conditioned, the Fita is over closer to the Van Gogh museum.
