Hotel Alpina -- Murren

Has anyone recently stayed here? I know that they have redecorated their rooms. We are staying in Murren for 5 nights and we can't decided between Hotel Alpina and Hotel Blumental. We have a reservation at both. We really love the View at Hotel Alpina -- but we like the atmosphere at Hotel Blumental Better. Any suggestions?

I am not going to be much help because we haven't stayed at either one-always stay at Chalet Fontana. But we have dined at the Blumenthal, and the food was very good. (Our favorite place for food is actually Hotel Bellevue, and if you haven't checked that one you might have a look-it is high up in the village and the views are great there too). I can assure you that you will find a warm welcome and friendly atmosphere at either one. Blumenthal does have more charm; Alpina has modernized and the outside has that industrial feel. But it is right on th edge of the cliff, so the views are unobstructed and fantastic. Blumenthal, on the other hand, is more in the village, so you can enjoy that aspect even if the views might be a bit different.

I have stayed at Hotel Alpina on two separate trips the most recent almost two years ago. We enjoyed our stay then and am sure it's better now that they have renovated. Loved the views from our balcony room with plenty of room to sit with a glass of wine and cheese. The breakfast buffet was abundant again with views of the Jungfrau. We were able to get free internet from the lobby. With the renovations, maybe internet can be acccessed from the rooms. Like many hotels in the town, it is family owned and friendly. Enjoy your trip

Just stayed here in June 2012 for 3 nights with a group of 16. Definitely the best thing about it is the view. Other than that it's a fairly standard lower budget family hotel. The rooms were teeny tiny and the new owners are certainly friendly and easy to speak with. They offered us half board at a very reasonable rate. Knowing how expensive Swiss Food is we took the offer for 2 of our 3 nights. It definitely was cheap, but I would not do that again. The food was ho-hum and bland. There are some really good places to eat in Murren so don't get locked into Half Board. I've stayed at the Alpenruh, Chalet Fontana, and Alpina and I liked the Alpina least of all. I would venture a guess and say go with the Blumenthal.

Got back from Europe on Sunday and the BO was by far our favorite place in the 7 countries we saw. We stayed at Hotel Jungfrau, very nice and quaint. The room was barely big enough for 3 obese people, but we did fine. The hotel picked up out luggage at the Murren gondola station and took it to the hotel. Alan and Veronique were super friendly and the food was delicious. I laid in bed in the morning and could see all 3 mountain: Monch, Eiger and Jungfrau. Would go back in a heartbeat.
