Hostels in Paris

I'm arriving in Paris early (7am local time) a day before my tour starts and plan on going to my hotel or hostel right from the airport and then heading out to Versailles. I know a lot of Hostels list luggage storage as an option and that the check in isnt until later in the afternoon so does anyone know if you have to pay an extra charge to be able to store your luggage before you are allowed to technically check in? Any suggestions on where to stay? I was thinking one of the following arrondisments: 1,2,6,7 or 8....also open to other suggestions.

Just stayed 3 nights in a private room (shared facilities) in the Perfect Hotel and Hostel in Montmartre (www.paris-hostel.biz) for 26 euro pp. Great staff, speak English generously, breakfast and linens included, clean, close to Metro and walkable from Gare du Nord; grocery store, ATMs, internet cafes across the street. No WIFI unfortunately. We got there early and they let us leave our luggage (no charge). Bring earplugs (even for a private room if windows are open)--it's a hostel. But it's a hostel in Paris! Happy travels!

I heartily recommend any of the three MIJE hostels in the Marais (4eme arrondissement). They are renovated 17th-century private mansions and Rick Steves calls them "the best budget accommodations in Paris." There is no charge for storing your luggage before you check in. See www.mije.com.
