Hello, just want some recommendations for a cheap budget hostel in paris for two 19 year olds in may 2011! Thank you!
Hi Heather, As far as hostels in Paris go, I've heard good things about the FIAP Jean Monnet, especially if you are solo. I stayed years ago in the HI Jules Ferry and it was pretty bad, I 've heard that it's gotten worse since :-( Since you're two, some of the small hotels (like in the 11th arrondissement) can work out equivalent or cheaper than a hostel, plus you get a private bath ;-) I've been using Hostelworld.com for the last couple of years and have been very happy with hostels booked through them in Florence, Vienna , Krakow and Peru. I've booked small hotels & guesthouses through them in quite a few other places, as well. When you look for availability, check all properties (not just hostels), sort the results by overall rating, read the reviews carefully, then check the map to make sure that it's central enough, and take note if breakfast is included in the price... many do. I really like the fact that with Hostelworld, it's easy to put a small deposit and get an instant e-mailed written confirmation. I often also get a second e-mail directly from the hostel, usually with good arrival instructions and other helpful hints. Good luck and have fun!
i was in paris this past april and stayed at the young and happy hostel...it has it good and very bad points, but i guess it depends, how much you can afford, how much your willing to put up with and where you may want to be. the street the hostel is on is one of my favorites anywhere in the world i have been, great market during the day and fun nightlife especially around your ages. bad things...i got there and they didnt have my reservation and i used hostelworld, they fixed everything and got me a bed so that was ok. showers were college dorm-esque so not horrible but not great, rooms are plain and nothign in them but beds and a few outlets, i was there for 3 nights and survived, never was miserable so if you have a strong mind and not against living the one star accomodation lifestyle it ends up being an ok enough place to stay based on its location alone....also it is near the metro stop place mongue on the 7 line which connects to almost every other subway line and takes all over the city...and the best part you would be near the best bakery on earth, pascal pinaud(one block up from the metro stop
If you could tell us your budget and your dates we might be able to find something nice for you.
thank you! im looking at hostelworld right now! and my budget is up to 150 euros between both of us, were only staying in paris for two nights around 17 - 20 not sure... i would think paris would have more variety, but im only finding one extreme to another i guess im not looking in the right spots :)! much help needed and thank you for the past responses!!!
Look at the Oops Hostel website. I'm not a hostel stayer but this one looks quite nice.
Hi, I was in Paris last May and checked out a hostel located in the 9th Arrondissement called Vintage Hostel on Rue de Dunkerque, the nearest hostel to Gare du Nord, where I always stay. From Gare du Nord to Vintage Hostel is about a ten mins. walk straight up Rue de Dunkerque. I found the place recommenable, good location, right at the border line between the 10th and 9th districts. My first time in Paris was close to your age...23, stayed at the HI hostel near Port de Vincennes called Centre International du Séjour de Paris: Maurice Ravel on 6 , av. Maurice Ravel. If you want to be in the center where the tourists and sites are, then this one I don't recommend...it's in the 12th. I am not adverse to staying at a hostel, providing the "price is right," relatively clean, close to a train station, and my "stuff" is secure. I carry more gear now when travelling than when I did at 23.
Hi Heather, Also check venere.com and booking.com.
Sort by price and check the map. Norma got me curious... the Oops does look like a solid alternative.
Heather, check your private messages :-)
From personal experience I highly recommend any of the three MIJE hostels in the Marais. They are renovated 17th-century private mansions and Rick Steves calls them "the best budget accommodations in Paris." They are centrally located and within easy walking distance of several major sights, including the Notre Dame cathedral. Go to www.mije.com. Another hostel that gets very good reviews is Le Village Hostel in Montmartre. Go to www.villagehostel.fr.
You might try the Mama Shelter. Although it is a little more money, it is so neat and if there are 2 of you it might be worthwhile.
When I was younger (read: had no money) I stayed at the 3 Ducks. It was decent. Let's Go used to recommend it, don't know if they do anymore. Nothing fancy about it, not that I'd have noticed or cared. The bar was a definite draw and a way to meet people.
