I was thinking about booking a night in Murren for 3 people. Are there any budget priced hostels in Murren? I'm having trouble finding one. Any suggestions?
There's the Mountain Hostel in Gimmelwald which sits just below Muerren. In Muerren try the Chalet Fontana www.chaletfontana.ch It's a wonderful place and Denise is a wonderful hostess.
Absolutely go with the Mountain Hostel in Gimmelwald as there are none in Mürren.
The cost is 25 Swiss Francs/person/night. I had a great time there, but it is the most rustic of the hostels that I stayed in. The beds are basically packed one against the next so you pretty much sleep between people rather than just in the same room as them. That being said, it is the friendliest hostel I stayed in while in Europe.
The Chalet Fontana in Murren isn't exactly a hostel, but we recently stayed there and loved it. The room we stayed in had 1 queen bed and one single bed and we paid 78/chf a night....split three ways, it would be a good price. I know they have other rooms there too, that accommodate more than two people. Shared bathrooms, very clean, excellent breakfast, wonderful host, couldn't have asked for a better place and price.
If the Mountain Hostel and Chalet Fontana are both full, you might try one of the rustic Berghotels located on th etrails above Mürren---about a 20 to 30-minute hike uphill. One is Pension Sonnenberg:

They have a triple room for 195 CHF, or you could choose beds in the Matratzenlager (dormitory) for 40 CHF each.
It is isolated, but beautiful up there, surrounded by meadows and cows.
We stayed for 6 nights at the Valley Hostel in Lauterbrunnen which is just below Murren. Very clean and nice with a shared kitchen. If you stay there ask to stay on the 2nd floor with a view of the Eiger, Monch and JungFrau.
As others have said, there is no true hostel in Murren; the only true hostel is the Mountain Hostel in Gimmelwald. It's a young crowd there with a bit of a party atmosphere. Another possibility in Gimmeldwald would be at Esther's B&B--her Sleep in Straw option. And do seriously consider Lola's suggestion of a berghaus above Murren. There are two: Sonnenberg, which Lola mentioned, and Suppenalp. In a berghaus you'd have a turly unique Swiss experience.
Cindy,
You might check the Guidebooks or Trip Advisor for suggestions on accommodations in that area.
I don't believe there are any "Hostels" in Murren but only Hotels and some B&B's. However, as the others have said you might consider The Mountain Hostel in Gimmelwald or the Hostel in Lauterbrunnen. You could also look at Esther's B&B in Gimmelwald or the others listed in the Guidebook. I believe the Gimmelwald Pensione is open again so that's another possibility.
What time of year were you planning to be in that area?
Happy travels!
Suppenalp! Thank you Dwayne--I couldn't remember the name of the other one.
The Swiss Berghotels or Berghauser are a wonderful and an essentially Swiss experience. The accommodation is rustic but the hospitality is genuine and the food is generally very good.
