There's a great list of hostels to go to or to avoid on the Helpline, but it's from 2004. I'd love to have an update. I've been in Villa Olmo in Como, which I can recommend, as RS did in his Italy guidebook. I'm currently in the Beehive in Rome, also highly recommended. I'm going to Split and Dubrovnik in Croatia at the end of my tour (March 28- April 3) and fly out of Brussels. Any suggestions? Thanks,

Marfa, I'd suggest having a look at the HI Hostels website, as they may have properties in the locations you'll be visiting. I've found their facilities to be somewhat consistent from one location to another, and they're well run. It helps to have an HI membership, as that provides preferred booking and better rates (over non-members). I've just renewed my Membership for this year, as I may be staying in at least one Hostel.
