Hostel in Paris

help! Can anyone tell me what the hostel in Montmartre/Paris called Le Village Hostel is like? Is it close enough to all the sites? Would anyone recommend it?

It's on a crappy street with a bunch of stores that specialize in cheap bolts of cloth. It's near nothing except the Montmartre funicular. The Anvers metro stop is only a couple minutes away, but it's a one-liner not going in a good direction, so you'd have to change. Everwhat the next one to the east that's also on the #2 Line can get you moving south. I've never been inside, but walked by there once. Punky people, bad smell - - and I have very low standards.

Karen,, I am thinking by Eds description that you could do better. I have a coworker who stayed at the St Christophers Hostel,, and it was clean and newish, in a decent area, but you will take the metro to get to places.
MIJE hostel has one in the Marais that is well reviewed. For two people sometimes a hotel is a better bet.. as hostels charge by the person, so for two of you,,you could find a hotel for 70 euros or so that may be nicer. If willing to go up to 80-90 I can recommend the St Pierres hotel in the 6th,, excellant location, you will be able to walk to many sites, rooms small but clean , and it has a/c if going in summer.

MIJE has three centrally-located hostels in the Marais, all within easy walking distance of Notre-Dame. The hostels are renovated 17th-century private mansions and both Rick Steves and Lonely Planet call them "the best budget accommodations in Paris." Based on my personal experience, I can affirm that to be true.
