First I want to thank everyone for putting up with all my questions! Everyone has been really helpful! I will be in Amsterdam for a night, arriving at the central train station at noon via Thalys from Paris Nord. I am trying to find a Hostel reasonably close to the train station and reasonably priced. I like a nice quiet atmosphere for the most part (aka I'm not into socializing and partying at a hostel). Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks again

Most all hostels near Centraal Station are in the red light district, so you're not gonna find a "...nice quiet atmosphere...":)
I can't give you any recommendations on hostels, but behind the Vitoria Hotel, across the street from the station are a bunch of small budget hotels, a little quieter than the RLD, but still a lot of activity at night. Also there is an Ibis above the station. Rooms average around 150 euros a night...not bad for Amsterdam.

I stayed at Vondelpark hostel. It's decent. It's near the museums but easily reachable from downtown by tram.
