We're going to France in early October and will be traveling to Provence and/or Dordogne. I really want to go horseback riding. I am an experienced rider and often have gone on 3-4 hour trail rides. Does anyone know of any good stables in either area? I'm looking for a ride where you're allowed to do some trotting/cantering not nose-to-tail plodding like places you often find in touristy areas here.

Also want to mention I've searched online but all the ones I found and contacted are vacations for a week-long riding trip. I'm just looking for about a 2-3 hour ride one day.

We haven't decided where our base will be but we will be there for several days with a car so I should be able to get to wherever it is.
