I am a reasonably good equestrian looking for a one day ride in Provence. I have surfed the web, but much of the information is not specific as to the quality of the ride or scenery. Any specific suggestions?
Depending on when you are going, and your tolerence for mosquitos, and you ability to suss out a good mount from among the poor ones (lots of history of poor horses) I would strongly suggest the scenery of the Camargue. They have wild horses and bulls and flamingos, as well as loads and loads of smaller birds.
About 8 years ago, I went on a one-week horseback riding trip in Italy, from a company that's no longer in business. I was only an intermediate rider, so I did LOTS of research. I would guess taht a number of stables, in France and/or Italy, that'll you find online will also offer longer riding opportunities, such as week-long vacation. When you look up information about those longer trips, you may find more detail about the location and the scenery. Also, a number of American companies work with stables in Europe to set up trips, so you may find information on the American companies' websites. On the quality, that's of course difficult to determine - think about trying to check out a stable here at home. But again, you might find more detail on descriptions of longer rides. And of course, you could always just contact the stable and ask them your questions.
Go to www.tripadvisor.com, type in Provence forum and use the search box. There are four pages of advice regarding horseback riding in Provence.
Thanks very much for this advise.
