My 14-year old daughter and I will be traveling to Germany for eight days in the Spring of 2008. She loves horses, so I've been trying to locate places in Germany where we could take a trail ride on horses for anywhere from 1-4 hours. A place where we could stay overnight and do a trail ride would be excellent. I'm also trying to find castles that offer overnight accommdations. Any thoughts would be appreciated!
Dawn, have you found anything yet? I tried googling "horseback riding Germany" and came up with several possibilities, but most are tour operators that offer multi-day trekking tours, or on-site training in jumping or dressage. Hidden Trails offers one such tour at Castle Sindlingen Equestrial Center. Here is another website with some listings:

But if your daughter would like to ride Western, I found one place that offers trail rides by the hour:
http://www.reinert-ranch.de/english/ and they have holiday apartments.
Lola - thanks! I did find the first link that you mentioned. If we were going to be there longer, I would definitely look into signing her up for lessons for a weekend. I'll check out the second today.
This place is in Nastätten, not far from Frankfurt and Koblenz. Riding is 11 Euros/hour; accommodations available. Or stay in the castle hostel in Diez (see photo at bottom of same page) which has recently been remodeled and is quite nice; prices there include breakfast.
