...without a car can one travel easily to Honfleur from Bayeaux by train or bus ?
No.
OK, well that settles it then !
Thanks
Karen, I looked at doing that also but don't think there is an easy way to get from Bayeux to Honfleur without a car.
Line 20 of Bus Verts du Calvados runs between Honfleur and Caen. At Caen either take line 30 or a train to Bayeux.
The key word here is "easy"! I don't know how easy it is but my husband will be going to Honfleur from Bayeux in June. Rick's 2009 France book has suggestions for the easiest connections on page 219. Trains run from Bayeux to Lisieux or Deauville, then buses from either town to Honfleur. I'm suggesting that my husband leave early in the day to have a reasonable amount of time in Honfleur. Oh and to check the bus schedules for the return trip before he leaves the bus station.....I do hope he won't be lost in France forever!
Actually, on reading further, Rick shows there are "5/day, 2-3 hours via bus and train: 1-hour express bus to Caen, then 30-minute train; or 2-hour bus via the coast to Caen, then 30-minute train". Sounds a little confusing but do-able.
Darcy, Thanks for mentioning the express bus. I wasn't aware of it because there are no timetables for it on the Bus Verts du Calvados site. (At least, I couldn't find any.) However, the route does appear on the site's map. It's a double blue line on the map and is identified as prestobus.
Thanks, Tim! The bus site is most helpful.
this is really good news, even if it may not be "easy" I had so wanted to visit Honfleur and being so close it would have been a shame not to do so...there is so much more preparation for a trip utilizing public transport than if one had a car but I did not want to deal with a car this time round...the last time I rented a car in France it was not so relaxing and we got ripped off by the rental co...though it was fabulous to go wherever we wanted,whenever...I just did not want to do it again...thanks for the help...and good luck to your husband and us !
