Hi all! Would love to have your help and guidance planning my honeymoon itinerary for next August 2013 (know I'm a little early to the game!).... We will be flying in from Seattle and generally interested in the following: -Spain- Andalucia south coast of Spain/Canary Islands
-Croatia- Hvar/Dubrovnik -Greece- Santorini We only have about 16 days so I know we can only pick 2 out of the 3 of these (we are definitely set on doing Santorini though). We are an active couple and want a combination of beach time/relaxation time and adventure time exploring a cool town. We prefer to be by the water at every stop. Thoughts? Totally open to suggestions of what would be the easiest and most cost effective route while satisfying our desire to visit some really amazing places! Renee
Thanks Charlene! Good call about posting this on the other forum :) thank you for your suggestions though-- can't wait to see Croatia...will be my first time...
It's not going to be really easy or cost-effective to get from any of these places to the others. I think you should spend some time on Kayak ... plug in some imaginary dates and routes and see what you can expect to pay, and if it's within your budget. For a more relaxing, cost-effective honeymoon, you might consider spending all of your time in just one of these countries. Sixteen days is not too much for any of them. And be aware, August is prime time for vacationers in all of these spots, so they will be crowded. With a little more time, you can hit the highlights (i.e. Santorini or Hvar), and then find some less-crowded but equally wonderful nearby islands for the remainder of your honeymoon.
Thanks! I realize that this is a non-traditional route. I have done parts of Spain and have done the major islands of Greece before (although my fiance has not)- that being said, I have never been to Croatia and really don't know which towns/cities/beaches are the best. Do you have recommendations for what to see in Croatia? I prefer to stay by the water and spend time in the top/most beautiful places. I am also going to aim to make this late Aug/early Sept (I've traveled to Europe in Aug before) so that will help.
You might get more responses about Croatia specifically if you post a Croatia-only question on the "To The East" section of this helpline. But in the meantime, this is all very subjective, but my favorite places by the water in Croatia were Trogir (little town near Split); the islands of Hvar, Korcula and Vis; old town Dubrovnik; and the little town of Cavtat south of Dubrovnik, where we prefer to stay. From Croatia, you can also visit Montenegro (either rent a car and go for a few days, or take a day trip by car or tour bus); beautiful spots along the Montenegro coast include Kotor and Budva. Have fun planning! And if you can move your trip to late August/early September, I think you'll be glad you did.
You can island hop along the Croatian cost using the ferries. Wonderful views and you can set your itinerary. Beautiful.
