We are traveling to Europe this summer and decided to switch out Stockholm Sweden for Holland but can anyone recommend places to visit in Holland? We are traveling with a 14 and 18 year old. We love history and traditional places but also some touristy stuff although we would love to see traditional Holland a little more than the touristy things...Also is Holland real expensive compared to Germany,France or England? These are the other countries we are visiting this summer.
I love the Netherlands and yes there's a lot to see and do. Pick up a Rick Steves' tour book on the country and read about Amsterdam and the country side north of the city. In particular, Volendam, Edam and Alkmaar. If the kids have had art classes, they'll enjoy the Rijksmuseum, which has works by Rembrandt including "The Night Watch" and the Van Gogh Museum. North of the city in the town of Volendam, the three of us rented bikes and rode along the top of the dikes to the town of Edam and back. So much fun. The town of Alkmaar, and Edam, have cheese markets that demonstrate the way cheese was weighed, checked for quality and purchased many years ago. Lots of fun. From Volendam, you can take a ferry to Marken, stroll around and see a demo on how wooden shoes are made. These are just a few ideas, there are many more in the tour book. Have a great trip making lifetime memories with the kids. We did!
I'm terribly sorry, celina, but your question is so broad that it is difficult to answer. You haven't named towns or cities, only whole countries that you would like compared. Is Redlands more expensive or less than San Diego, Eureka, Marin or San Bernardino? Or Texas or Arizona. It depends where you go. Can you be a tad more specific please? Some places are more, some less. Generally you can stay very cheaply in each or drop a bomb. What is your lifestyle? Do you go 4 star or one? Village, town, or city?
Kinderdijk, Amen!!
