Historic Green Vault in Dresden

We recently changed out travel itinerary and are thinking of visiting the Historic Green Vault in Dresden in July; however, since we changed our plans so late, advance tickets for the day we would like to go are sold out. Rick's book says that 200 tickets are saved to be sold on each day and you need to line up early to get them. Can anyone tell me how early we need to line up to have any hope of getting tickets? (Rick says ticket sales start at 10 a.m.) Also, among the tickets that they save, are there a variety of times throughout the day available to choose from? Or are they usually for times at the end of the day only?

Maybe you should ask your hotel if they have answers to your questions or maybe they can get you some tickets maybe on the day before your arrival or so.

If you don't get in the Vault, and I hope you do, the other museums are quite wonderful. We had a half day in Dresden on the Berlin / Prague / Vienna tour and it was very nice.

Hi, Sara, their website says that 25% of each day's tickets are sold at the gate/entrance, beginning at 10 a.m. They are calling them timed tickets and it sounds like they are for throughout the day; however, they're not completely clear on that. I guess you know they're closed on Tuesdays and that you have to check coats and backpacks and large bags and that therefore you should get there a little early. Good luck - Brianna

Hi Sara,

We were just in Dresden (June 1 & 2) and were unable to get tickets into the Green Vault. We checked at the TI and were told the only way to get any of the daily 200 tickets was to be in line no later than 9:00 a.m. because the tickets sell out every day once the ticket booth opens. Good luck! We're just planning on going back on another trip--and this time we'll make reservations before we go!
