I'm traveling to vaison-la-romaine and have a car for a week. Which hill towns would anyone suggest? We love wine, history and all things French so anything you liked here we would like.
I know that part of Provence well. I will put something together and get back to you soon. In the meantime, tell me what your priorities and preferences are, e.g., food, history, outdoor activities, cultural events, etc. So much to see and do. What are you reading?
We are into wine, history and food so I'm open to almost anything. I've been reading Ricks book especially about the driving loop in this area to visit different towns so it can be anythinng in this area.
Jeff: I've followed pretty much the exact driving tour given by Rick in his book on Provence. You'll be rewarded by a close reading of his detailed itinerary and suggestions, including towns to visit and driving routes.
MON DIEU! I was just putting the finishing touches on a detailed account of a few of my favorite things when it all went POOF! Damn. Not kidding. Haven't read Rick S book on area. I'm sure it covers the main towns and sites. Quick recap of some of the places I was writing about: Wine, winery and local joints in Bonnieux, Marquis de Sade sites, picnicking, Lacoste, Roman sites, Van Gogh, Les Baux, Oustau de Baumaniere. Gotta run now. I'll try again some other time. Sorry.
Haven't forgotten about you, just been very busy. How is your trip research going? Will you be based in one place or will you move around?
We will be located at Hotel Burrhus in Vaison-la-Romaine
Four of us had a delightful afternoon in gigondas, tasting wine (the place next door to the one in Rick's book) and having lunch.
