I'm going to be camping in Switzerland the 2nd week of May and was wondering if the hiking trails will be dry? I live in the mountains of Colorado and our trails don't dry out until June. I was thinking specifically about the Gimmelwald area.
Thanks!
I guess if your camping it probably shouldnt matter right!? but since the weather can change from season to season - you may still run into some snow but you may also get a nice spring! You can email the hotels in the area - or also check the regional web sites for internet cameras... google swiss alp live cams or similar. The Berner Oberland and many mountain top hotel/restaurants have live cams running! Just be prepared for wet cool cold dry and warm = layers!
I suspect that you might be camping at the large campgrounds in Stechelberg which is just below Gimmelwald in the valley. We stayed in Lauterbrunnen during the first week of June last year and at that time, we could see hikers out and about from Kleine Scheidegg down to Wengen and above Muerren. We could see some runoff from the upper snow in some places across the trails. I would suspect that 2-3 weeks earlier, the trails would be somewhat wet.
