Hiking in Europe

Several years ago, Bill Bryson wrote about hiking through Luxembourg. We are considering this after visiting Paris next year.....I'd like to hear about anyone else's experience with this sort of hike...how many days did it take....route taken, etc. Thanks!

The Pieterpad is a long distance walking route in the Netherlands. The trail runs 485 kilometres (301 mi) from Pieterburen, in the northern part of Groningen, south through the eastern part of the Netherlands to end just south of Maastricht, on the top of Mount Saint Peter (St Pietersberg).

For accomodation you can rely on the network of 'Vrienden op de Fiets'. A Dutch association with 4000 families who provide in the Netherlands and Belgium rooms with breakfast, but only to hikers and cyclists. It's rather small scalish with most of the times only 1 or 2 rooms available. The number of hosts in Germany, France and Luxembourg is rather limited. Most pleasant is the hiker friendly price of 18,50 euro pp/pn and the fact that you get a close view on the life of the locals.
