Hiking hut to hut in the alps?

I am looking for suggestions on where in Switzerland would be a great (intermediate) Hut to Hut hike. We would like to hike up to a hut..hike to another hut and then back down.

I made some suggestions on your other thread. For more ideas, you could consult the Cicerone Guide "100 Hut Walks in the Alps" by Kevin Reyolds. be aware that most true huts are operated by the SAC ( Swiss Alpine Club) to serve as a base for climbers. Most are situated at the end of a trail and provide a base for climbing. Hiking to these is an out-and back, not a through hike to another hut. Most of the Multi-day hiking routes in Switzerland link villages or mountain inns ( Berghotels) rather than SAC huts. The Berghotels are a Swiss institution. You might have a look at " Switzerland's Moutain Inns" by the Liebermans. You could pick two that are 5-8 miles apart and have a nice thre-day hike. The Appenzelarabs Engadine areas are particularly rich in Berghotels.

This book also has a lot of good information: "Walking Easy: in the Swiss and Austrian Alps" You can order it at Amazon. Lola is not quite right in saying that most of the SAC huts are in and out only. In my experience most of them are interconnected. And don't be put off by the term "hut" because they are more like a full service mountain inn. Check this website:

Here is a website (in German) with a comprehensive list of 190 multi-day treks in Switzerland: http://www.wandersite.ch/Trekkings.html The great majority utilize Gaesthauser, rather than huts. Some use a mix of both (coded B for Beides). Some use Sleep in Straw at farms. But I don't think it matters to Carol whether they are "true" SAC huts; they just want a three-day intermediate trek with lodging on the way. I suggested a specific onE I like (First to Faulhorn to Schynige Platte) but it does not involve walking on Day 3; it is a train ride instead. Hopefully someone else can suggest specific routes and Hütte/Berghotels; the SAC website is not all that helpful unless one knows the area really well.

Also, while "Walking Easy" is an excellent introduction to hiking in the Swiss and Austrian Alps for English-speakers, it does not address hut-to-hut hiking at all. The focus is on village-based day hikes, which is a great way to experience Swiss alpine hiking, but not what was asked here.
