I am pretty particular about shampoo and conditioner (I have curly/frizzy hair, and bargain products do awful things to it.) I am tentatively planning on bringing a full bottle of each with me (we're a group of 6, 4 female), but I'd rather buy it in Germany after we get in. I usually use Joico, T.I.G.I/Bedhead, or Rusk products. Does anyone know if they sell those brands or what the equivalents would be in Germany or Austria? Where would I buy those- department stores? Beauty shops? What is the price range? If they are drastically more than I spend here, then I would rather bring it from home. Thanks in advance!
Cate,
I doubt that any of these three products are available over there. However, since European women also can be pretty particular, the cosmetics industry will meet you half way. If you describe to the pharmacist (yes, such products also are sold in the Apotheke)what your preference is, they'll find a product that may work. I would not buy at a grocery store, and beauty shops generally do not sell products the way they do here.
You may be pleasantly surprised - the European shampoos have a heavenly fragrance and are equal to, or better, than top line American products.
Otherwise, play it safe and put a small bottle of each in your suitcase; secure with zip-lok bag.
Cate,
I use good stuff on my hair also, not those brands you use though.
In Europe I found Schwarzkopf brand to be the best. It's not expensive, but works on my thick hair better than other brands. You can find this brand in any store. In Germany if you go to Aldi or Lidl(?), you might get it under 2 EUR.
Here where I live, i am able to find Schwarzkopf hair acre products at my local grocery store or at Save a lot (not sure if this store is nation wide).
It's about $3-4, maybe you want to try before you go to Europe.
Cate,
As rick suggests, try something new.
I would bring a 3 oz bottle of your usual stuff, but go visit a beauty salon in Germany and see what they use there.
In my last visit, I found the "Western" brands in Switzerland and Italy, so I can only imagine that Germany would be no different.
