I am confirming our hotels for our upcoming trip to Paris. When I emailed our hotel they are now saying that they will be closed and can not accomodate us. We have a confirmation and a reservation. Help!!!! What do I do next? Am I SOL?
Amy, I suppose it could happen, but sometimes there is just a communication error going on. It particularly happens when you're communicating via email rather than person to person. A few thoughts:
1. Make sure your confirmation is with the same hotel that you later contacted. Yes, this a bit of a long shot, but not impossible that you reached a place with a similar name. But more likely....... 2. If your message and response was in English, see if they simply confused your confirmation with a new request. Sometimes a poor English speaker might interpret your message as an inquiry about a new room, and the response may simply mean they are now fully booked, as opposed to closed and not operating, at the time. 3. Related to #2, were the dates in your message and their reply easily understood? Did you spell out the day and month or use numerical abbreviations? You may have asked about your room on 10/8 meaning October 8 and they replied about 10/8 meaning August 10. It happens. Of course, you might have done everything right and they are in the wrong. The best thing you can do is contact them again and seek clarification. If you know anyone who speaks French, a translation of your message might also be helpful. Good luck!
