Also posted by mistake to 'to the east' sorry...oops We're planning to stay 3-4 nights in Vienna around May 1st. My husband is tall - we prefer big beds and good showers - and of course convenient location :) I've combed thru lots of info - any opinions/experiences with these places? Pension Nossek, Pension Suzanne, Spiess & Spiess, Hotel Austria
thanks
My husband and I stayed at Pension Nossek in Sept. of this year and there were lots of great things about it. The room we had was very big and overlooked the pedestrian street Graben. It was very fun to open the window and watch people strolling below. The Wifi was only available in the lobby even though you have to pay for it. The breakfast was good. The bed was comfortable. The furnishings were not modern. The staff was very friendly. The location could not be beat. I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
thanks, Janelle.
Are there any restaurants you'd recommend?
I know the perfect place for you: K&T Boardinghouse. Their two locations cannot be beat and the rooms are nice and modern. The price is right. And, Tina and Kaled are neat people. They're also good friends of Rick Steves.
You can find them online.
Nancy - Hotel looks gorgeous. I'll put it on my list - but I was hoping to stay closer to 150 euros/night....what did you like best about it?
lt
loved Hotel von Ungarn for the amazing medieval feel of the street and the interior. literally in the shadow of St. Stephen's and literally attached to the Mozart house/museum in its rear. The breakfast is over the top.
David - thanks for the tip - guess this is what happens when you don't have a current RS guide. K&T looks great except for 2 possible things...did you have a problem with noise or fumes from the busses? And it says 'mid size towels, not bath towels' - were they small or is this just saying regular size not bath sheets? Sure can't beat the price!
hi Linda --
You didn't list it, but check out Hotel Konig von Ungarn, which we loved. World's greatest breakfasts, lovely atrium. In the medieval streets literally in the shadow of the steeple of St. Stephen's.
We went into K&T once with 4 people and the other time with my wife and I.
I don't remember any towel issues. The subway runs under the strasse in front of their place. A large grocery is across the street, and is a great place to get picnic supplies. The Ringstrasse and the big weekend flea market is within walking distance. Tina is from just over the Hungarian border, and she's very interesting. Speaks untold languages. She has friends in other great cities running B&B's, and she refers clients over to them. Her husband runs a karate studio.
We have been to Vienna numerous times and tried all sorts of different types of hotels. From design hotels, to boutique, small, to art, and luxury. Now for some reason, we always end up staying at Le MERIDIEN Wien. It's not as expensive as the luxury hotels and it's cheaper than most boutiques. it's maintained better than most hotels at it's price range, and the location is great. http://www.lemeridienvienna.com
