Help with Itinerary to London/Spain & Portugal

Does the following itinerary appear to be to rushed or for a first time trip will we be able to enjoy ourselves? Will appreciate any and all comments.

3 nights London; 4 nights Madrid; 2 nights Toledo; 1 night Cordoba; 5 nights Nerja; 1 night Tangier; 2 nights Sevilla; 3 nights Salema, Portugal; 3 nights Lisbon; Flight back to Glasgow; drive to Inveness for 2 nights; 1 night Hardian'w Wall; 1 night Bath; 1 night in London then back to USA.

Plan is to rent a car when we leave Madrid. We will fly from Sevill to Lisbon.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

You have about 30 days so although it's a lot of destinations, it looks doable. The only thing that jumps out at me is Hadrian's Wall 1 night and then to Bath 1 night. How are you getting to Bath, it looks like a long distance in one day? I don't know anything about Nerja but why 5 nights there, more than in London?

Thanks for the info. It makes me a little more comfortable about our schedule since this will be our first trip to this part of the world. We are planning on renting a car out of Glasgow to drive back to London. From what I have been able to determine the drive from Hardian's Wall to Bath is about 4 - 5 hours.

Judy,
Sounds like a blast! One question I have is regarding your remark that you are flying from Sevilla to Lisbon. Then what? Are you going to Salema from Lisbon and then backtracking back to Lisbon to fly to Glasgow? A couple of years ago, I took the bus from Sevilla to Salema. Then took a bus from Salema to Lagos and on to Lisbon. It was very easy.

We will pick up the car when we leave Madrid. We will drive back from Salema to Sevilla (which is sort of backtracking) turn the car in at the Sevilla airport and fly to Lisbon. This was done for economic reasons. There was almost a 500.00 drop-off fee for the Lisbon airport. We were able to fly for a lot less.

May I suggest a bit of a rescheduling to save yourself some travel time and get a bit more rest/ First, forget the day at Hadrian's wall...and at Bath. Spend those two nights nights in Edinburgh. I would suggest London (3 nights), train/plane-Edinburgh for 2 nights, Inverness 2 nights, return Edinburgh, fly to Madrid, then on from there, except flying to London at the end. One day and 1 nite in Toledo should be more than enough time. Where do you plan to leave your car when going to Tangiers? And I agree with Dean...take the bus or bus-train Sevilla-Salema. I'll be quicker and a lot cheaper...no discount airlines fly Sevilla-Lisbon, so airfares will probably cost you an arm and a leg.

Thanks for all of the great suggestions. Expecially about the car and using the bus between Sevilla and Salema. We are also going to relook at Endienburg as opposed to Hadrian's wall and Bath. Do you have any infor on the bus company, name or where schedule information can be located?

Damas and Eva bus lines offer 2 runs (jointly) a day (1 morning, 1 afternoon) Sevilla-Lagos (http://www.damas-sa.es or http://www.eva-bus.com/home.php?lang=UK) Monday-Friday. They ran weekends last summer, but no guarantee they will this year. From Lagos to Salema, a local bus (http://thomasallen.home.sapo.pt/travel/012.htm). If that's too much, take the car to Salema, bring it back to Sevilla, the bus back to Faro and take the train to Lisbon (http://www.cp.pt/cp)

Thanks for all of the input. It has given us some more food for thought.

Personally it makes me feel exhausted just reading it, never mind the prospect of doing it. 28 nights, and 5 countries.

That aside, you seem to be spending a disproportionate amount of time in Nerja - it is a lovely town but is quite small - maybe you have a particular reason for spending time there. You have also missed Granada which is well worth seeing in southern Spain.

Nerja is for rest but we will also do a day trip to Granda and Gilbreater while we are there.
