help with accomodations near Beaune, France

I'm looking for hotels or B&B's in the area of Beaune. I've checked the Rick Steves guide, as well as reviewing this website, and now I'm asking for your personal experiences. I'm hoping for safe, clean, inexpensive, and well-situated accomodations. We'll be driving, so we need convenient parking. Thank you, in advance, for your help.

I would not recommend the Hotel de la Paix. It is in a noisy and rather seedy area near the train station. There was a drunken brawl behind the hotel one night that woke everyone up. And one night I walked back to the hotel by myself and did not feel safe. It was the only time in all of France that I did not feel safe walking at night. The actual hotel was well appointed and staff was nice, though.

A side note: The ring road surrounding the Beaune city center is one-way; and a number of the streets that feed into the ring road are one-way as well. If you decide on a hotel in this general area, or use your car for transportation into the city, you might want to ask the hotel for good driving directions.

Logis de France is an association of family-owned small hotels & inns, which are all over France. Go to their website to see if anything in the Beaune area meets your requirements. There is almost always parking available, too.

Anita,

I stayed at Hotel Le Clos on a Rick Steve's tour and I loved it. It was not in the towncenter, but a lovely hotel near the town.

Dear Anita,
In 2006 we stayed at the Hotel Des Rampartes and it was one of the best places we have ever experienced in our European Travels...the hospitality is warm and enthusiastic... it is a short walk (about four blocks) from the RR Station. Rooms with character... a great living room, bar area and two blocks walk from a wonderful village center... we had three perfect days in Beaune and the Hotel was one of the reasons. I don't have my guide materials handy but we tend to be careful with the expense of housing so I expect it will be in the moderate range. We found it in the RS Guide. Good luck. Hi Anita,
We were in Beaune in January and stayed at the Hotel de France. If your looking for basic, inexpensive and clean accommodations, it was 57 Euro per night. We didn't have a car--the hotel was right across from the train station so convenient for us. We walked into the city center from there and it was about a 10-minute walk. They do have parking for 9 Euro per night. We were there off-season and didn't feel unsafe walking at night as a previous poster mentioned.

If I weren't a budget traveler I'd stay at the Hotel des Remparts as George suggested. We walked by there and it looked very nice--the one hotel in Beaune that I made a mental note about for future reference.

In Beaune, had a really nice, relaxing lunch at a bistro-wine bar, Bistrot Bourguignon (on pedestrian-only street rue Monge)--try the chocolate macaroons for dessert!

Hi Anita,
I also vote for the Hotel Des Remparts. I stayed there once on a ETBD tour and loved it and am staying there again this summer. The staff were friendly and the location is perfect--right inside walls (or part of the wall, it appears) and a 3 min. walk to the centre, yet very quiet.
