Hi all, I'm going for my very first trip to Europe in April 2010, flying to Paris and leaving from London. In total 15 day excluding travel days to and from Europe. Can anyone suggest a 15 days itinerary to cover Paris, Switzerland, Amsterdam, London or any neighboring countries? Actually I wish to cover one day at Salzburg but I guess it's abit impossible to do so.
Switzerland is your outlier here. Considering that you will lose two days of travel, you might want to cut this. Getting to and from anywhere in Switzerland from your other destinations involve a full day of travel, so effectively you would only have 11 days for four destinations.
Ellie,
As this is your first trip to Europe, my first suggestion would be to pre-read the Guidebook Europe Through The Back Door. It will provide you with lots of tips on travelling efficiently in Europe.
Regarding your Itinerary, 15 days is not a long time so visiting Salzburg would be a bit of a challenge. It's a considerable distance from your other destinations and you'd need to allow for travel times. Travelling that distance for one day is really not worth the effort IMHO.
You didn't specify where you want to visit in Switzerland? One route that might work for you is something along these lines:
Paris (4 days?)
TGV to Switzerland and then local trains to whichever location you want to visit (3 days?)
Budget airline to Amsterdam - check EasyJet from Basel to Amsterdam (3 days?)
Train to Brussels or Paris and then EuroStar to London (4 days?)
You'll need to build some time into your Itinerary for travel between locations, so you'll have to adjust the days in each city accordingly.
Good luck with your planning!
