An to my earlier question-heeding a great suggestion from a fellow traveler. My wife and I will be traveling with 2 12-yr. old girls. That said, with a "reasonable" budget in mind (4 in a room, second room, etc.), just wondering if anyone has suggestions on hotels they have stayed at. Thanks again, everyone! "My family and I are taking a side trip to Paris for 3 days and 2 nights. Having never been to Paris or France before, I know there seems to be several "Districts", as in the 7th District and 8th District (Latin Quarter?).
Just wondering where might be the more convenient area to stay in that's relatively easy to get to the more preferred sights in the city for first-time visitors. Thanks so much!
We always stay at l'Hotel Hameau, 48 rue de Passy. Here is their website: http://www.paris-hotel-hameaudepassy.com/ They have family rooms, and great rates on multiple night deals. They also answer emails sent through their website - promptly and politely - which I have found a very great help in booking. The hotel is located in an adorable neighborhood between the la Muette (on line 9) and Passy (line 6) Metro stops. And it's a five minute walk - down a gentle grade - to the Eiffel Tower! That being said, and as much as I love l'Hotel Hameau, have you thought of an apartment? With two kids, having your own kitchen might be a really awesome - and money saving - option. There are lots of threads on this board with great recommendations for apartment rentals. Could be your best bet.
We always stay at the Hotel Castex (google it to get their website address, which gives accurate photos etc) in the Marais. It is about a 5 minute walk from the Ile St Louis, Place de Bastille, or place des Vosges, and less than a 15 minute walk from Notre Dame, the Louvre, and the Orsay. Lots of excellent places to eat and to picnic in the neighborhood. They are friendly, and very helpful with making restaurant reservations, etc. They have a few rooms which can be connected to form a sort of suite. In addition to checking the rates posted on the site, it is usually worthwhile to email them to see if they are running any specials.
We like the area around the Latin Quarter and Luxembourg. Last time we stayed at the Hotel deSeine, Saint Germain des Pres. Easy walking distsnce to Notre Dame and it was quiet. We plan to stay in the same area on our trip next spring, but have booked the Atlantis Saint Germain des Pres as it is less expensive. I'd just make sure that the hotel you pick is convenient to a Metro station. If I were travelling with children, I'd definitely consider an apt.....
