I attend a trade show in Nuremberg, Germany in May and would like some suggestions as to where to go for 1 week afterwards. I have already seen most of Germany on past trips so I was thinking more of flying somewhere near, such as Paris, etc. Ideally, I would fly to France and then take some kind of tour that would take me around France and other cities for 1 week. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks!
We just got back form France in April. I love Paris but, have been there a few times already...very crowded. This trip, we went to the Alsace region which borders Germany. We absolutely loved it! Colmar, Eguesheim, Riquewihr and Beblenheim (where we stayed in great B&B) were delightful and on the wine route which is a fabulous tour of the area. Just in case, the B&B is called Le Gambrinus and the owner speaks fluent English. This area was fought over for so many years that everthing is bilingual (French/German). Just my own preference and suggestion. Austria also has many unique villages such as Zell am Ziller and Achensee with great hiking opportunities with gorgeous views.
Enjoy planning, it's half the fun!
If you are flying, it's going to be about the same amount of travel time wherever you go.. . . one hour more or one hour less of flying time compared to all the other time is immaterial ( getting to/from the airport, check-in, security, baggage claim. . . ) So what interests you? May is a good time to go just about anywhere in Europe. Or maybe just look at where you can get a good deal on an open-jaw flight. Finding an organized tour that exactly coincides with your dates may be more of a challenge. Maybe that will be the decider for you.
