Help!! Rail Travel in Germany

I erroneously believed that I could purchase my Twin Rail pass for Germany online -- and print out my pass immediately! I leave tomorrow morning, and because I left this for the last minute, I'm worried that I will not be able to use the Twin Pass deal. Does anyone know if I can purchase the Twin Pass at a train station in Germany??

Nyki, I'm not too familiar with the "Twin Rail Pass"? Generally speaking, Rail Passes can NOT be purchased in Europe, so you might have to rely on point-to-point tickets. This is one item that shouldn't be left to the last minute!

For future reference, you can purchase Rail Passes from Rick Steves, from the Rail Europe website or at www.guideforeurope.com. From my experience, whatever estimate of a delivery time they provide at the time of purchase is very accurate! My last Pass was delivered FAST, about a week or so from what I remember.

Good luck!

I have stumbled across a few informal websites that said the pass could still be purchased in Germany -- although I can't find anything official on this topic. I thought maybe there was a stipulation that if you purchased the ticket online before leaving -- but didn't receive it yet, that you could still reclaim the tickets abroad. . . . ?? Maybe just wishful thinking! Thank you for the information. It's good to know for the next trip. Thanks!

Here's the same information I gave in response to your other thread on this subject.

The railpasses section on this site says that five- and ten-day versions of the pass are available at some major train statons in Germany. See www.ricksteves.com/rail/germany.cfm.

Don't panic. You can still get good rail deals when you are over there. Check out Laender Passes which are good after 9 am until 3 am the next morning. They are good for travel within each region or state. They are good for up to five adults! They are much cheaper, just that you will have to buy them at the ticket booth or from a DB office at a station. If you know all your travel dates you can buy the tickets ahead of time from a DB office at a rail station in Germany. We used a 4 dail Twin Flex-Pass and then Laender passes when we were there for 3 weeks. We just returned on Monday and didn't have any problems doing either. Good luck and enjoy Germany!
