Help pick one of Spain/Germany/Greece regions for a week

We are going to Europe for three weeks in July/August. So far we have decided to spend two weeks in Italy/Switzerland/France mostly in Rome, Florence, Venice, Interlaken and Paris. We have a choice of spending an additional week elsewhere before Rome or after Paris. Based on proximity, I think Spain, Germany/Netherlands or Greece are natural choices. However I do not know much about these places to be able to make a decision easily.

Our family includes my wife and kids aged 14 and 12. Kids are not much into scenery and get bored if things are moving slow (their favorite places are Paris and Rome). We will be utilizing Eurail pass.

Can you help us pick one of the places?

Thanks
Deepinder

For something a bit offbeat, but kids might like (mine did), think about renting a self-drive boat for a week and cruising the canals and rivers. Working the boat is a piece of cake (governed to 3-4 mph), stop anywhere, kids can handle the boat also. You can get a couple of bikes from the boat rental place and kids can pedal along the tow paths and still be in sight. Locaboat.com is one outfit with France, Spain, Netherlands, maybe more. Plenty of similar outfits exist as well.

I personally love Amsterdam but I could be biased because we have a lot of family based just outside of there so I may see it from a different perspective. Our kids (8 and 6) have been a couple of times and they always love it. We took the high speed train between Amsterdam and Paris and I think it was about 4 hours. Amsterdam has a nice energy to it and it's fun to see the bicycles everywhere and laid back attitude.

(Looks like you're seeing a push for Amsterdam!) :)
