My mom and I are taking a daytrip from Munich to Neuschwanstein via train through Fussen. We also saw in the Rick Steve's book about the luge nearby. I was wondering how to get there from the castle and if anyone has ever done it? Also, is it recommended to buy tickets for the castle in the US before going? Thanks!
Hi Lindsay,
We didn't buy tickets in advance but you can at...

The luge at Tegelberg was a lot of fun. It's about a mile up the road from Neuschwanstein. It's called the Sommerrodelbahn. We had a car so I can't help with transportation options.

Paul
We rented bikes in Fussen and used them to get to both the castles as well as the luge in one day. It was a lot of fun!
Rick Steve's book says you should definitely buy your tickets before you go to the castle. He basically says that if you go in the summer and DON'T, you may not even get into an English tour at all. I just visited the website, and it looks like you can buy the tix online for an additional 3,60 Euro. (Well worth it if you ask me!) I'm so excited you pointed that out, Paul. Now I know how to book the tix before we go and we'll have peace of mind that we'll get in without long lines!
