Hello all.
Can you please help me by giving me as much information as you can on Medeira. I found a few travel books that highlight the island (i.e. Rough Guide), but I trust Rick Steve's readers more than anything, so I am really eager to hear your experiences. Whatever tidbits of info you can give me is really appreciated. Also, is there is way to get to Madeira from the mainland by ferry?

Using these websites, especially the first one, I broke down the island into different parts so I can concentrate on one area per day for the week.

I will be visiting Madeira next month...I do not believe there is a ferry to the mainland, but I may be incorrect.

Lastly, SATA Airlines has a direct weekly flight on Saturdays from Ponta Delgada, Azores to Madeira and SATA and TAP Airlines have multiple daily flights from Lisbon.
