So a long while back I was doing some research on Spain for a story I was writing and I came across a fictional novel set in a particularly beautiful Spanish city. I remember looking it up and being amazed at the pictures. Now i'm going to visit and I can't remember the city. It had tons of archways and bridges and towers, with pathways along the tops of the arches which criss crossed all over the city. Perhaps it was also a walled city?
Hi Elijah
Possibly Segovia??
No, it was smaller and not so well-known...also I think it was high up in the mountains
Florence. The (private) bridges were built for the King so he could walk to special places, etc., without having to mix with his subjects.
Did the city have a river running through it? If so I am sure it was Florence.
Florence is not in Spain.
Arcos, Ronda, or one of the other Andalucia White Hill Towns. My best WAG is Ronda.
Possibly Avila or Girona?
elijah,
You can't remember the name of the "fictional novel" can you? That would sure help!
You might check your local TV listings to see if any of Rick's "Spain" episodes will be airing in your city in the near future. You might see the city you're thinking of in beautiful HD colour!
Sounds like Avila to me.
It's not the whole city that has towers and walkways, but the city has very extensive walls & ramparts, with many massive towers and archways, and I'm sure that a carefully-shot video could easily give one the impression that the whole town is like that. It's not, but it's a cool place to play. Google it, you'll get plenty of images.
Cuenca?
You could try Google Images. Type the name of one of the suggested cities into the search box and see if you recognize your beautiful Spanish city. Search each city name one at a time.
Hmm none of the pictures i'm finding of any of these cities are reminiscent...it was in Andalusia I remember that.
all these cities are too big... i'd say the closest are the white hill towns mentioned...it was sort of clustered among mountainsides. Almost like an ewok village except in the mountains and made of stone instead of in the trees out of wood
Try this link to the whitewashed villages of the Andalusian provinces -- scroll to the bottom of the page to a clickable map.

If you don't find your city there, look for the novel by searching online library catalogs.
Have you tried searching for the book? Maybe looking at titles will jog your memory.
No I can't remember the book at all, just that it was written in english by I think a non spanish native I can't remember plot details or anything so not very useful:P I might recognize it but typing in "novels set in spain" is a bit vague
If you can't remember anything about the book except that it was in English, and you can't remember anything about the city except that it was beautiful and had lots of arches, I think it is time to give up on it.
You must have some idea of what you were researching for the story you were writing. Retrace your original research. Get thee to a library--one with reference librarians. These types of searches with only vague clues supplied are their bailiwick.
Could it be Guadalest?
