Help! Hotels for Zurich and Basel

Ricks book and the web site were a big help. I was just wondering about any

personal opinions.

We loved Hotel Adler in the "Altstadt" (oldtown pedestrian area) area of Zürich. Close to the river and about 10 minutes' walk from either the lake or the Bahnhof. It is in the moderate price range. If price were no barrier, I'd love to stay at Hotel zum Storchen, right on the river: http://www.storchen.ch/ And our son, who is 30, really liked Hotel Altstadt, with its art-thremed rooms: http://www.hotel-altstadt.ch/cms/hotel.html

We thoroughly enjoyed the Hotel Helmhaus. It's located almost next door to the twin-spire Grossmunster and in the altstadt and about 20 steps away from the tram stop. Friendly workers, squeeky clean, good breakfast.

I also would suggest the Hotel Adler. We stayed there for 3 nights in late Oct. and it was fabulous. You can walk to everything and the hotel's restaurant -- Swiss Chuchi -- has incredible fondue. We ate there two nights in row (it was so good). And the hotel has a very good breakfast included in its rate.
