Son in Switzerland card won't work at ATM & he has no francs - Can he go to bank teller on Monday to get cash?? Any advice would be appreciated.
This is why we often recommend a back up card. If he has a credit card AND knows the pin should be able to get a cash advance. Can you check with his bank to see why it is not working? Has he tried other ATMs?
I hope for his sake he can, but doubt it since I am always required to use chip and pin at the cashier's desk the same as at the ATM. If all else fails, every train station in Switzerland provides Western Union facilities so you could send him money, expensive I know but it is fast.
Did you call the bank and ask why the card won't work?
Have him call the international number. I had to do that once and it was actually quicker then when I calls from the US.
RESOLVED!! THANK YOU! After 24hours and multiple calls to bank turns out all he had to do was try the 1st 4 numbers of his pin and it worked at the ATM in Murren!
Ah, yes! European ATMs take 4 numbers and zero can be one of them. No letters.
We thought we had the same problem, but I remembered this had occurred once before....the ATM wouldn't give 400 CHF, but if I requested 200 CHF, it worked, but as I recall, only once a day.
