Heidelburg Germany

We are leaving in a couple of days for our trip to Paris, Switzerland and Germany. On our last day we drive from Rothenburg ob de Tauber, back to CDG to fly out the next morning. (I know, it is almost 7 hrs of driving)

I am wondering if it is worth it to stop in Heidelburg, since we are practically going right by? We plan on stopping at the cathedral in Reims already. But is Heidelburg too big/too much to do a quick pit stop?

Thanks!

Heidelberg has been discussed many times on this forum, and here are those prior discussions:

If you do any internet searches of your own, as part of your trip preparation, you'll get better results if you spell the city name correctly: Heidelberg

You could spend all day exploring Heidelberg, or you could get a quick overview in about an hour. Other than the Schloss, there aren't many actual "sites". Rather, it's an attractive town for strolling. For years, Heidelberg hosted the headquarters of the US Army in Europe. I don't think there was any strategic reason, the generals probably just took a look at it and said "Hey, this place is nice, let's set up here."

Thank you Tom and Kent.....

I did check the forum for posts about Heidelberg, but I see such mixed reviews of it....

We would only have 3 hours or so to check it out, so I am just wondering if that is worth it or not? Is it a hard city to drive into? We have a car, and would need parking.

One more sleep!!!!!

It is hard to drive into the tourist area of Heidelberg. I think you might have to be local to park in that area. It is best to park farther away and take public transportation to the tourist area. I like Heidelberg, but I personally wouldn't want to attempt it in three hours.
