Heidelburg

Does anyone have a suggestion for a restaurant to Heidelberg- good food does not have to top notch.

My favorite restaurant in Heidelberg was Hackteufel (also a hotel). It's on Steingasse, the alley right in front of the old bridge. Very good, fairly traditional German fare in a cosy dining room. Some of the restaurants on the Hauptstrasse (the pedestrianized main shopping street) are a bit touristy and not especially good, but I always enjoyed Perkeo, a big cafe/restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere.

There are a several popular restaurants and bars on the Steingasse alley, if you are looking for pub-food. The alley, which is at the end of the Old Bridge, as noted by the first poster, goes up a block or two toward the large stone cathedral, the Heiliggeistkirche. Just look for the church - it's pretty big - or find the small tower at the end of the bridge, and the alley is right there. I also ate fairly recently at a restaurant about a block from the bridge, where the food was good, traditional German cuisine, and the price was right, but sadly, i cannot recall the name of the place. Hoever, if you stand at the base of the bridge, and the Steingasse alley is to your left, you just walk parallel to the river, up past the Hotel Hollander Hof, and its right there. I would eat there again for sure.
