We are going to Barcelona in June 2009 on RS Spain/Portugal tour. We arrive late on June 16. June 18 is when the RS tour starts. On June 19, our last night in Barcelona, there is a concert at the Palau de la Musica Catalana. June 19 is the second day of the tour and I think we have some free time.
Do you think it worth going to see a concert there?
Should I be doing something else?
It looks beautiful and was wondering about the sound.
Has anybody been there?
I can't vouch for the sound, but I think it's one of the most amazing pieces of architecture in a city that abounds with astonishing works. If you don't go to a concert, try to get in on one of the guided tours, as we did. They have some in English.
The Palau is fantastic, but architecturally and acoustically (at least as far as my undiscerning ear can tell). If you like (or at leas tolerate) organ music, it will be a fabulous experience. You might want to purchase tickets now, or at least soon, as the "good" seats seem to be going fast. According to the online purchase on the website, all seats are €1 which seems like either a great deal or a mistake. On the other hand, other concerts the same month have much higher prices, leading me to think that the site works fine. Enjoy.
Do you think 1,00 Euro is 100 or 1 ?
Hi Jerry,
We are going to Barcelona in the Fall and I am watching the replies to your post. Since the tours are 10 Euro, I guess it's a no brainer if you can get a 1 Euro ticket to anything that is being presented in concert. Please post or send a private message of reply when you get back. Love to hear your reviews.
€1,00 is one euro. The comma is used here as a decimal holder. One hundred euros is €100 and one thousand euros is €1.000,00 -- takes some getting used to. If you want to buy tickets, I suggest that you do so quickly, they are definitely selling at the price listed.
I was fortunate to hear the Vienna Symphony practicing in the Palau de la Musica when I visited Barcelona in October. The practice session alone was awesome! I would have liked to have heard the "real" performance but unfortunately it was sold out. If you have the time and are able to book tickets I'd highly recommend it. The building is absolutely beautiful and the acoustics amazing. What a great memory you'll have.
Thanks to all for your replies. I purchased tickets for the June 19 concert for 1,00 Euro. Which is 1 euro.
