Have question re hotels Brouwer & Keizershof in Amsterdam

They are both small B&B type hotels & I'm wondering if guests are given a key or do they have staff to open the door at night until around 10pm. Also, I'd like to know how safe you feel in the area outside the hotels at night. I like to stay in the canal area but usually stay at a larger hotel.

My daughter and I stayed at the Keizershof. We did not go out at night...so don't know about the key. Mother and daughter that lives there and runs the hotel were great hostess.

It appeared to be safe after dark.

We were very pleased with our stay.

We stayed at the Hotel Keizershof last summer too. I second the wonderful hospitality of the the hostess. We were given a key for the front door to come and go. No problems. Only downside we had there was our room window screens had some holes in them and let mosquitos in at night. Got eaten pretty good! Breakfast there was wonderful!

We stayed at the Hotel Brouwer on Christmas and we were out and about until 8:00 p.m. or so. If I remember correctly they came to the door to let us in and took us up to our room. I don't know how they do things once you are established there. We were only in Amsterdam for 24 hours and it was dark when we were shown our room and still dark when we left. Looking out our window it appeared the view of the canal would be good. We left before they served breakfast. You can email them to ask what their policy is for coming in late. When we left early they told us to use a side door. It was within easy walking distance of the train station and everywhere else we went.

I stayed at Keizershof and thought it was great w/ a fab buffet breakfast. The neighborhood is also vg. However I would not wander around Amsterdam in general at night. It can be a bit seedy.Use common sense and err on the conservative side.
