I've heard there are haunted hotels in France, and I'm interested to learn of anyone's experience with them. We will be traveling to Paris, the Loire Valley and Provence this October. I am not interested in anything that is a contrived, Halloween-scary kind of experience. I also want to be able to get a good night's sleep! But, anyone with a story to tell, I'd love to hear it. Thanks!
I stayed at a place in Dijon once that smelled like it was haunted by the ghost of someone who never showered, but that's about all.
Spoiler alert! There are no such things as ghosts.
I know this story may cause the thread to slip away into the unknown haunts of senseless discussion but here goes. We were in Scotland about six years ago, staying at a B & B in the village of Port Charlotte, on the Isle of Islay. We had a suite just inside the front door, through a door into a sitting room and through another door into our bedroom. In the middle of the night I heard a door open and close that I assumed was the front door and that another guest had come in late. As I woke up and rolled over in my single bed there was an apparition sitting on the foot of my bed. She was in a long brown wool cape that went from foot to head and had a hood. She had long light brown hair. She rose up from my bed and walked towards the door disapearing before she got to it. The next morning I said something to the host about another guest coming in late and he said we were the only ones there. I decided to let the matter drop but after getting home I emailed the story to him, claiming I wasn't crazy. He said there are plenty of stories about ghosts and spirits in the Islands and the Highland, but he didn't think that had ever happened in his house. The house was an old exciseman's house built in the mid1800s. We are aware of spirits because we have "friends" in our old house that everyone in our family has had experience with. Fortunately, they have always been friendly, if a little unnerving at times.
