I have read a number of travel journals online on websites like Ball of Dirt where people have camped throughout Europe. They haven't seemed to have trouble finding a place to camp, so perhaps there is a website that lists camping in Europe. You might check Thorn Tree forum on the Lonely Planet website to see what information you can find there about it.
I'd love to hear more about traveling in a campervan. I've thought that it would be a great way to tour with a child and slim budget.
You're not going to get much advice from Lonely Planet, though. After the site was bought by the BBC they rolled out changes to their Thorntree bulletin board that have driven the regulars off. Question after question go unanswered. Too bad. It was a great site.
Sorry to hear that, Doug! Yes, it was a good site. Emily, you might try google.com or ask.com to see if you can find a camping directory site of some kind.
Ok, thankyou. i will let you all know if i find a usefull website.
One year four of us took a converted Ford Transit from Somerset to the south of France. No plans, not much cash and plenty of time on our hands. We stayed six weeks and had a great time. We travelled to places that looked pretty, always found camp sites, none of them were expensive. Because we took it slow we also saw a lot of Normandy and Brittany as well as spending two nights in Paris. That knackered Transit gave us great flexibility. Fond memories.
Jim Hubbard, NOW is your time to tell this lady about your trips to Europe traveling in your campervan with your sweetie.
Hi Emily
I would recomend a book "Travelers Guide to European Camping" by Mike & Terri Church. It has a list of campgrounds across Europe.

Great book to get and read,
Europe by Van and Motorhome by David Shore and Patty Cambell.
