Hi Sonia,
... we have taken a lake steamer on Lake Lucerne from Lucerne to Flüelen, and returned. We had a wonderful dinner aboard. It was a really fun excursion. It would probably be fun even if the weather didn't fully cooperate. We've taken numerous other shorter cruises on the lake and enjoyed them all. Almost all the steamers are of another time, but always in like new condition. You get a feel for what it must have been like to sail on the Vierwaldstättersee (Lake of the Four Cantons aka Lake Lucerne) in, let's say, 1920. While sailing, we always take notice of the Park Hotel at Vitznau — and tell each other that the next time we visit the area, we'll take rooms at the Park Hotel (That requires only a lottery win, you understand).
... We have been aboard a train called William Tell, but for only a short segment of a journey — and probably too long ago to be the same train. Swiss trains are superfine accomodations. You are sure to love it.
... I do recall that on a Swiss train long ago I paid for lunch with a Swiss Franc note and got in change some "valid only on Swiss trains" script (I failed to count my change)..... I did manage to use the script later, I recall. So always count your change! ... That's about it, but we wish you a venture of a lifetime... Gute Reise!/ bon voyage! ... P

Hi Perry,

Thanks for your input and your help. I will be doing my best to try and win the lottery before this trip so maybe a stay at the Park Hotel will be on my itinerary !
