Has anyone gone to Lapin Agile in Paris?

This is a bistro that was a favorite haunt of Monet and we've walked past it on numerous trips to Paris. This time, my husband wants to go to dinner there and attend the cabaret. Has anyone gone to the cabaret there? Any remarks on the show? The website shows its 24E for the first drink. Is it 'worth' the time and money?

Thanks!

Once. That was enough, went for the history. Music was okay, stand-up stuff not so good (and I speak idiomatic french). Price was lower back then. Twenty-four euros is for show and fist drink probably. Seventy bucks for two is cheaper than a lot of stuff in Vegas, Atlantic City, etc. It's been a while, but I don't think it included grub; you'd better check.

Very touristy, like the Moulin Rouge.

Go for it. Make the old goat happy.......and then make him let you pick something next. Turnabout and all that, you know.

Their website says it's 24 Euros for the show and one drink. Your second drink is 7 Euros.

Food is not served. If you want dinner, there are restaurants nearby, it says.

Actually, that's pretty reasonable. We have a popular cabaret show here in San Francisco (Beach Blanket Babylon) and tickets to that are $35 and up, without drinks.

Thanks for the input. Actually, I've heard that the Beach Blanket show is pretty good--I'm hoping that Lapin Agile is at least that entertaining. I have my doubts! But Ed is right--I'll go and expect my payback time.

Deb, please report back to us how the show is. I've always been intrigued by the place and have thought about going.

It was a favorite haunt of Matisse and/or Picasso, not Monet, as I recall...

I went to the show 8 years ago in a jet-lagged haze and I largely concur with what Ed says. It was a nice, intimate show (I think the audience was under 100 people) where they sang several folk songs. I don't remember the stand-up parts, but being jet-lagged and not speaking French probably took care of that.

Probably would not go back, but it was definitely nice the first time. I don't recall them serving any food there, but there are plenty of nearby options.

If it's performing in your area, see the play "Picasso at the Lapin Agile" sometime or check it out from the library. Decent (if semi-fictitious) overview of the context behind the place, and a fantastic script as well.
