my aunt and i are visiting munich for 3 days at the end of march. she mainly walks with a cain but uses a wheelchair for long distances. should we rent a car to get from place to place in munich or is public transportation sufficient.
thanks for the help!
The website for Munich Metro, www.mvv-muenchen.de, has a lot of infomation about access for handicapped.
There is a map, in English, showing what facilities are available:
in the city (inner) area, here.
in the region (outer) area, here.
In addition, on the German language side, there is an interactive map here. You can click on any station and get all of the information about handicapped facilities, including a station plan with the location of lifts, ramps, etc.
Although many of the older, regional trains have steps into the cars, the S- and U-Bahn load at platform level.
In addition, www.bayern-takt.de >Englische Version > Our services > Station Layout has a pulldown list of all of the Bahn station in Bavaria with a list of facilities and a station layout showing the location of lifts and behinderten-WC.
