Anyone gone to a hammam/Turkish bath in Paris? My mom and I are going in April and are thinking this might be a fun thing to do. Biggest concern is cleanliness as well as a good overall experience. Also, are you supposed to go in the altogether, in underwear or?? Any feedback and thoughts are truly appreciated, I don't want to make a fool of myself!!
I've been to them in Morocco, but not Paris. I went to real hammams, not the tourist ones, so not sure if the rules are different. In the neighborhood hammam, the men left their underwear on, and according to my wife, the women kept their panties, but not bras. It really is a relaxing, fun time. They were very clean.
Went like this: pay at the little window, go in, and undress in the open area with cubbies for your clothes. Then go to the hottest room, sit around and then wash yourself or your friend with soap (you bring the soap)and water from the provided spigots and buckets . Then move to the cooler room, then the lats room which is the coolest. Dry off, get dressed, and go on your relaxed way!
I think there are a few in Paris, one I'm pretty sure about is at the grand mosque.
