Hamburg lodging

Tom, This isn't exactly what you are asking for but maybe it'll help. If you want a bit of luxury, I suggest Hotel Fürst Bismarck on Kirchenallee, basically across the street from the Kirchenallee exit of the Hbf. I stayed there in 2009, a 3 star place, very nice. I thought breakfast was a bit high...it's extra. A cheaper place but about 2-3 minutes from Fürst Bismarck is Hotel Graf Moltke, also on Kirchenallee at the corner, checked out this one for next time, also a 3 star, very nice. If you're looking for basically a place to crash, at a price 1/2 of Fürst Bismarck, there's Kieler Hof on Bremer Reihe 15, about a block after you cross Kirchenallee, ca.,3 mins to the Hbf., stayed there a couple of nights too in 2009. Whenever I go to Hamburg, I always stay very close to the Hbf, can be considered seedy but that's immaterial to me, not bothered by it. After visiting the Altstadt, you might want to go to Friedrichsruh if you're interested in Prussian history. Take the S-Bahn from the Hbf.... you'll know why when you get out there. If you're interested in Prussian history as well as its geography, take the S-Bahn from Hamburg Hbf to Pinneberg to get to the Samlandmuseum, about a 20 mins walk from the stop in Pinneberg. I saw this in 1989, an insight of a world gone.
