My husband and I are staying for a few days in Hallstatt this May and we have received great info on places to stay (I think we found a place - thanks). We are trying to find some hiking maps of the area online - or maybe there is a good place to pick up a map once we get there? any suggestions? thanks

This isn't the best map in the world, but it does show some (red lines) of the hiking trails around Hallstatt. You can hike up the face of the mountain behind Hallstatt to the Salzbergwerk (or take the Salzbergbahn) from which there are hiking trails up the valley to the west. Alternatively, you can walk around the end of the lake (or take the bus) to Obertraun and hike up towards the Dachstein or to ice caves.

We actually went on the Salzkammergut website and requested maps from them. Got them in the mail a couple of weeks later. They have several brochures that you can request.
