Has anyone ever taken the train to get from Munich to Hallstatt, Austria? I am thinking about tacking a couple nights there onto the end of our trip and wondered if that was possible to do by train or if the amount of time to get there negated having two nights to spend there. Thanks.

In checking the rail planner you have to go to Salzberg from Munich the catch the train from sAlzber to Attnang Puchheim. Then Attang to Hallstat-Total 6 hours - Google.com -International Rail Planner Europe then pick the Hafas site It is really easy to use in planning rail times and tells you stops etc. Hope this helps

Check the DB website...looks like you can do this journey in as little as 4 hours, depending on time of day. I've driven this route...about 2.5 hours. Perhaps that's an option to consider? Nice drive from Autobahn exit to Hallstatt.
